Stefan Stux and Andrea Schnabl announce the opening of Salon STUX West, a return to the roots of the original STUX mission and to the idea that must remain the anchor of the art world: if art is a mirror of consciousness, how can we remain faithful to that truth above all else?

For over 35 years, Stux Gallery has been aiming to answer this question by delving into the heart of the art world to find what resides there. Often it was a young emerging artist or an overlooked older artist or movement. Sometimes the shifting tides of the art world pushed the whole endeavor sideways. First in Boston, then SoHo, Chelsea, Midtown - the iterations and changes have been vast. We all know and lament these tides: the changing neighborhoods and commercialization past the point of recognition.

In this climate, Salon STUX West will aim to contribute a variation on the classic gallery model, a salon of art and culture for a new age. Situated on the parlor floor of a historic landmarked building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the space is bright, airy, and intimate. It is engineered to foster a lively, interactive dialogue. Receptions at the Salon will center around performances, music, lectures and lively conversations - all in a setting surrounded by solo and group exhibits of established and emerging artists.

Salon STUX West is a place to have a curated conversation, an update to the centuries-old tradition of gathering people of culture in one room to “see what happens.” Salon STUX West will follow the ethos of refining taste, a gathering to elevate one’s understanding through other’s perspectives. It is a response to the polarization of the art world, a venue to exercise our freedom of expression, and an investigation into unleashing new possibilities.

STUX will inaugurate this new space with a solo show by the Icelandic painter Thordis Adalsteinsdottir, coupled with an evening of Dada, organized by the New York based artist Heide Hatry.
